How to Convert Image Files on Windows & Mac
Updated August 31, 2026
Image formats multiply faster than any other kind: JPG for everything, PNG for graphics, WEBP for the web, HEIC on iPhones, TIFF in print shops, BMP and ICO in Windows corners, AVIF arriving fast. Converting between them all is one tool and one motion.
Drag images into ConvertSave on Windows or Mac, pick the output, convert. Offline, batch-friendly, originals untouched.
How to convert any image file
- 1
Drag your files into ConvertSave
Open ConvertSave and drag your images into the window. You can drop one file or a whole selection at once. There is no upload step, because the files never leave your computer.
- 2
Choose TIFF as the output format
Pick TIFF from the format list. ConvertSave shows the formats that make sense for the files you dropped, so TIFF is right there.

- 3
Click Convert
Hit the Convert button. Each TIFF file is saved next to the original, so you don't have to hunt through folders to find your converted files. The originals are left untouched.

Which image format should you pick?
| Format | Type | Pick it for |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Lossy | Photos, sharing, printing; the default |
| PNG | Lossless | Graphics, screenshots, editing |
| WEBP | Lossy/lossless | Website images |
| HEIC | Lossy | Apple devices, half-size photo storage |
| TIFF | Lossless | Print and publishing workflows |
| AVIF | Lossy | Next-gen web images, smallest files |
| BMP / ICO | Uncompressed | Legacy Windows uses, icons |
The busy directions have their own guides: HEIC to JPG, HEIC to PNG, WEBP to JPG, JPG to PNG, convert to JPG, convert to PNG, convert to ICO, and images to PDF.
Converting to TIFF or BMP
Print shops and scanning workflows still live on TIFF, and the occasional legacy Windows tool wants BMP. Both are one pick away in the output list.
Converting to HEIC or AVIF
Going modern shrinks files: HEIC roughly halves photo sizes for Apple-centric libraries, and AVIF squeezes web images smaller than WEBP. Both work as outputs from any common image input, including plain JPGs.
Batch converting images
Any mix of formats converts to one output in a single pass, up to a thousand files in our testing, with every result saved next to its original.
Is image conversion safe?
The risk with converting your photos isn't the conversion itself, it's where the conversion happens. Free converter websites work by uploading your file to someone else's server. You usually can't tell who runs the server, where it is, or how long your file sticks around after the conversion finishes. For personal videos and photos that's a real privacy trade, and it's the reason so many of those sites are covered in aggressive ads.
ConvertSave does the conversion on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. You can turn off Wi-Fi entirely and it still works, which is also the easy way to verify the claim. Your original file is never modified, and the converted copy is written right next to it.
Frequently asked questions
Which format keeps the most quality?
PNG and TIFF are lossless, so nothing is discarded. Among the lossy formats, HEIC and AVIF preserve the most quality per megabyte, and JPG at high quality is fine for everyday use.
Can I convert many images with mixed formats at once?
Yes. HEIC, JPG, WEBP, and PNG can share a queue and all convert to the same output in one click.
Why convert to HEIC or AVIF on purpose?
File size. Both store the same photo in roughly half the space of JPG, which adds up across a photo library or a website.
Do my images get uploaded anywhere?
No. ConvertSave converts on your computer and works offline.
Is ConvertSave free?
There's a 7-day free trial with all features unlocked. After that it's $9/month, $60/year, or $129 once for a lifetime license that covers 3 personal devices on Mac and Windows.
